Senior Nutrition Services
The SCIDPDA Nutrition Services is a Congregate Nutrition Program that has provided freshly cooked, hot, nutritious and ethnically appropriate lunch to seniors since 1980. Weekly ethnic menus include Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese food.
Seniors 60 years of age and older are served meals that meet one-third of recommended Daily Allowances. The program is hosted in the ADA-accessible Bush Asia Center, 409 Maynard Ave. S., a central location that allows for convenient access to public transportation. In addition to meeting the nutritional needs of seniors, the services include blood pressure monitoring, medications review, and physical activities such as exercises and Tai Chi. The program's Five a day Bingo is a fun approach to educate and remind seniors of the daily recommended servings of each food group. Clients also look forward to celebrating theme and holiday inspired social events.
The program serves an average of 60 seniors a day and 760 folks a year. Our clients come from Seattle and its vicinity, as far north as Edmonds, south as Federal Way, and east as Bellevue. An integral part of the Nutrition Services is the Home Delivery Program that distributes freshly cooked, hot, nutritious, ethnic-based meals 5 days a week to homebound seniors in International District and areas along Beacon Hill, M.L. King, Jr. Way, Rainier Valley.
